Manual Scoring

Manual scoring allows race officials to enter final positions directly without using timing systems. This is the simplest scoring method and works well for shorter races, practice sessions, or when timing equipment isn't available.

When to Use Manual Scoring

Manual scoring is ideal for:

  • Short races: Quick heats or LCQs where timing isn't critical
  • Practice sessions: Recording finishing order without lap times
  • Backup method: When timing systems fail or aren't available
  • Straightforward racing: When you can clearly see who finished where

Note: Manual scoring records finishing positions only—it does not track lap times, crossing times, or provide timing data. For races that need timing information, use Stopwatch Scoring or automatic timing methods instead.

How to Use Manual Scoring

Step 1: Select Manual Scoring

From the race page, when you're ready to score, you'll see an option to "Manually Enter Final Positions". Click this button to enter manual scoring mode.

Step 2: Enter Positions

You'll see a list of all racers registered for the race. For each racer:

  • Enter their finishing position in the "Pos" field (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.)
  • The system automatically adjusts positions when you enter a number—no need to manually shift everyone else
  • Leave the position blank (or set to 0) for racers who didn't finish properly

Step 3: Mark Non-Finishers

For racers who didn't complete the race, click the menu icon (⋮) next to their name and select a status:

  • DNS (Did Not Start): Racer registered but didn't start the race
  • DNF (Did Not Finish): Racer started but didn't complete the race
  • DQ (Disqualified): Racer was disqualified

Step 4: Review and Finalize

Once all positions are entered:

  1. Click Finalize Results
  2. A dialog appears showing the complete finishing order for review
  3. Check the confirmation box: "I acknowledge these results are final for this race"
  4. Click Confirm Finalize

Once finalized, the results are locked in. Be sure to review carefully before confirming.

Understanding Position Entry

The manual scoring system intelligently handles position assignments:

Automatic Reordering

When you assign a position, the system automatically shifts other racers to maintain sequential order. For example, if you set racer #22 to position 3, the racer currently in 3rd moves to 4th, and everyone else shifts down.

Inserting Positions

You can insert a racer into any position. The system won't let you skip positions or create gaps—it enforces continuous numbering (1, 2, 3, etc.).

Moving Racers

To move a racer from one position to another, simply enter the new position number. The system handles all the re-shuffling automatically.

Clearing Positions

To remove a racer from the finishing order, delete the position number (or set it to 0). This closes the gap automatically—a racer in 5th becomes 4th, etc.

Racer Status Codes

DNS - Did Not Start

Use when a racer was registered but didn't show up for the race start. This is represented internally as position -1.

Example: Mechanical issue in staging, racer scratched before the gate drop

DNF - Did Not Finish

Use when a racer started the race but didn't complete it. This is represented internally as position -2.

Example: Mechanical failure, crash, pulled from race by officials

DQ - Disqualified

Use when a racer was disqualified by race officials. This is represented internally as position -3.

Example: Rule violation, unsafe riding, jumped the start

The Finalization Dialog

When you click "Finalize Results," a confirmation dialog appears showing:

  • All finishers listed in order with their number plate and position
  • Non-finishers listed separately with their status (DNS, DNF, or DQ)
  • Class breakdown if multiple classes raced together
  • Acknowledgement checkbox that must be checked to proceed

This confirmation step prevents accidental or premature finalization. Review all positions carefully before checking the box and clicking "Confirm Finalize."

Switching Between Scoring Methods

While in manual scoring mode, you can switch to stopwatch scoring if you decide you need timing data:

Click "Use Stopwatch Scoring Instead" to switch modes. This button appears at the bottom of the manual scoring interface.

Note: Any positions you've already entered will not be lost, but you'll need to start recording crossing times in stopwatch mode.

Multi-Class Races

If multiple classes raced together, manual scoring handles each class separately:

  • Separate position entry: Each class has its own list of racers and positions
  • Class headers: If multiple groups raced, you'll see class names above each group
  • Independent ordering: Positions restart at 1 for each class
  • Combined confirmation: The finalization dialog shows all classes together for final review

Best Practices

  • Record positions immediately: Enter results while the finish is fresh in your mind.
  • Have a spotter: For busy finishes, have someone dedicated to watching and recording the order.
  • Use status codes: Properly mark DNS, DNF, and DQ racers for accurate records.
  • Double-check before finalizing: Review the confirmation dialog carefully—once finalized, results are locked.
  • Clear non-starters: Make sure to mark DNS for anyone who didn't show up, so they're not listed as unfinished.
  • Communicate with racers: If there's any dispute about position, resolve it before finalizing.

Common Questions

Can I change results after finalizing?

Once you click "Confirm Finalize," the results are locked. If you need to make changes after finalization, you'll need to adjust the race status or contact support for assistance with corrections.

What happens if I don't enter a position for someone?

Racers without a position (and without a status code like DNS/DNF/DQ) will not appear in the final results. Make sure to either assign a position or mark their status before finalizing.

Do I have to enter positions in order?

No. You can enter positions in any order you want. The system will automatically reorder the list and handle all the position shuffling.

Can I skip position numbers?

No. The system enforces continuous position numbering (1, 2, 3, etc.). You cannot have gaps like 1, 2, 5. If you try to enter a position that's too high, it will be clamped to the maximum valid position.

What if two racers tied?

Manual scoring doesn't support tie positions. You'll need to determine a finishing order using race rules (photo finish review, previous lap times, etc.) and enter distinct positions for each racer.

Will results show lap times?

No. Manual scoring only records finishing positions. If you need lap times or crossing times, use Stopwatch Scoring or an automatic timing system instead.

Can spectators see results before I finalize?

No. Results only become visible to spectators after you finalize them. This gives you time to enter and review positions privately before publishing.
