Privacy Settings

Adrenaline gives you control over who can see your content. This guide explains the three privacy levels and how they work across racer profiles, tracks, races, and organizations.

Privacy Levels

ℹ️ Default Privacy Settings

When your racer profile is created, the default privacy setting depends on your age:

  • Under 16 years old: Profile defaults to Private for safety and protection
  • 16 years or older: Profile defaults to Public for discoverability

You can change your privacy setting at any time, regardless of age.

Public

Visible to anyone — Your content appears in search results, popularity lists, and can be viewed by anyone with or without an account.

  • Appears in global search results
  • Included in "Popular Racers" and "Popular Organizations" lists
  • Accessible via direct link
  • Discoverable by anyone browsing Adrenaline

Unlisted

Shareable to anyone — Your content is hidden from search and discovery, but anyone with the direct link can view it.

  • Does NOT appear in search results
  • Does NOT appear in popularity lists
  • Accessible via direct link (you can share the URL)
  • Not discoverable through browsing

Private

Invisible to everyone — Only you (and authorized team members for organizations) can view your content. Requires login.

  • Does NOT appear in search results
  • Does NOT appear in popularity lists
  • NOT accessible via direct link (others see "not found" or "access denied")
  • Only visible when you're logged in
  • Requires an account to set (cannot create private content without logging in)

Racer Profile Privacy

How to Change Your Profile Privacy

  1. Go to your racer profile page
  2. Click "Change Privacy" in the profile settings section
  3. Select Public, Unlisted, or Private
  4. Click "Save"

Your privacy setting takes effect immediately. No subscription required.

Note: Profiles for riders under 16 default to Private when created. Riders 16+ default to Public. You can change this anytime.

What Privacy Affects on Your Profile

Privacy settings control visibility of:

  • Your profile page (name, number, ratings, machines, sponsors)
  • Your race history and results
  • Your upcoming races
  • Your Elo ratings (if above 1200)
  • Your sponsor logos

What Privacy Does NOT Affect

Even with a private profile, the following remain public for rating system integrity:

  • Your name and number in sanctioned race results (required for Elo rating system)
  • Your participation in events you've registered for (visible to event organizers)
  • Your registration status for events (check-in, DNS, DNF, DQ)

This ensures fair competition and prevents rating manipulation. If you need complete anonymity for safety reasons, contact support to discuss options.

Ratings and Privacy

Elo ratings below 1200 are automatically hidden from public view (shown as "Not Public" on your profile). Ratings above 1200 respect your privacy setting. Private profiles hide all ratings from public view, but your rating continues to update based on race results.

Track Privacy

Setting Track Privacy

When creating or editing a track in Track Developer, you can set its privacy level. This controls who can view and fork your track.

  • Public: Anyone can view and fork your track
  • Unlisted: Only people with the direct link can view (cannot fork)
  • Private: Only you and invited team members can view and edit

Forking and Privacy

You can only fork public tracks. Unlisted and private tracks cannot be forked. When you fork a public track, your fork is independent and can have its own privacy setting.

Race Privacy

Setting Race Privacy

When starting a race (ad-hoc or practice), you can set its privacy level. This controls who can view live results and race history.

  • Public: Anyone can view live results and race history
  • Unlisted: Only people with the direct link can view results
  • Private: Only you can view results (requires login)

Event Races vs. Ad-Hoc Races

Event races (part of organized events) are always public for transparency and rating integrity. Ad-hoc races (practice, testing, fun races) can be set to any privacy level.

Organization Privacy

Organization Profile Privacy

Organizations can set privacy for their profile page. This is useful for private clubs or organizations that don't want public visibility.

  • Public: Organization appears in search and discovery
  • Unlisted: Organization hidden from search but accessible via link
  • Private: Only organization staff can view the profile

Events and Organization Privacy

Organization privacy does NOT affect event visibility. Events are always public for registration and spectator access. If you want to run a private event, contact support for custom solutions.

Search and Discovery

Global Search

The global search (top navigation bar) only returns public content. Unlisted and private profiles, tracks, races, and organizations do not appear in search results.

Popularity Lists

"Popular Racers" and "Popular Organizations" lists only include public profiles. Unlisted and private profiles are excluded from these lists.

Popularity is calculated based on recent race activity, followers, and engagement. Setting your profile to unlisted or private removes you from these rankings.

Following and Privacy

You can follow public and unlisted profiles. Following a profile gives you updates in your feed, but does not grant access to private profiles. If a profile you follow changes to private, you'll no longer see updates.

Privacy Best Practices

When to Use Public

  • You want to be discoverable and grow your following
  • You're a professional rider or sponsored athlete
  • You want to appear in popularity rankings
  • You're promoting your organization or events

When to Use Unlisted

  • You want to share your profile with specific people (family, friends, sponsors)
  • You don't want to appear in search but are okay with link sharing
  • You're testing a track or race before making it public
  • You run a private club but want to share links with members

When to Use Private

  • You need complete privacy for safety or personal reasons
  • You're developing a track and don't want anyone to see it yet
  • You're running internal practice races for your team only
  • You want to keep your profile completely hidden

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change privacy settings anytime?

Yes! You can change privacy settings for your profile, tracks, and races anytime. Changes take effect immediately.

Do I need a subscription to use privacy settings?

No. Privacy settings are available to all users, free or paid. However, you must be logged in to set content to private.

What happens to my ratings if I set my profile to private?

Your ratings continue to update based on race results, but they're hidden from public view. Your rating history is preserved. If you switch back to public, your ratings reappear.

Can event organizers see my private profile?

Event organizers can see your registration details (name, number, emergency contact) for events you've registered for, regardless of your profile privacy setting. This is necessary for event operations and safety.

Can I hide specific races from my profile?

Not currently. Privacy is all-or-nothing for your profile. If you set your profile to private, all races are hidden. If public, all races are visible. Individual race hiding is not supported.

How do I share my unlisted profile?

Copy the URL from your profile page and share it directly. Anyone with the link can view your profile, but it won't appear in search results or discovery features.
